About The Program

GOMadison Volunteer Transportation (GMVT) provides essential rides to non-emergency medical destinations for Madison County, NY residents who are 60+ and non-Medicaid eligible at no cost to them. The program connects those with transportation barriers to volunteer drivers within the community.

Hours of Operation

  • Monday through Friday
  • 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Closed on Federal Holidays

How It Works for Riders

  • Riders complete an intake form online or with the Transportation Coordinator.
    • We gather basic information and demographic data to help determine what their needs are and other programs they may be eligible for.
  • Riders call the Transportation Coordinator to request a ride giving date, address, time, and approximate duration of appointment.
      • 1-2 weeks advance notice recommended
      • Rides can be one-way (drop-off or pick-up) or round trip where the driver waits during the appointment.
      • Riders can use and bring their mobility aids (canes, walkers, etc.) however, they should be able ambulate independently.
        • Should they need assistance, a companion rider should is necessary. This can be an aid, adult family member, or friend.
      • Appointments with sedation require a companion rider.
  • The Transportation Coordinator contacts the volunteer drivers to secure their availability.
  • Volunteer Drivers are given necessary information, and then contact the Rider to confirm pick-up time.

*Ride requests are not guaranteed. Advance notice will be given if requests cannot be fulfilled.*
